Saw it last night. The film is a massive accomplishment – that they took all these different elements and turned it into a coherent narrative is amazing in its own right. With that said, there’s a number of choices made by the directors that were more than a little weird, crazy, and off-putting… things that didn’t improve the film and kind of pulled me out of it.
The good news is that the last hour pulls everything together and, for the most part, it really works – at it’s best the movie is incredibly effective and affecting. But until that last hour, I felt like the film was on track to be a glorious and fascinating failure.
